Cool Coats for Dogs - Keep Your Pets Cool this Summer

Cool Coat Cooling vestSome dogs seem oblivious to hot weather while others really let you know they’re suffering. Does your dog pant or lay down to rest even on gentle strolls? Are you worried about over-heating and heat exhaustion?

There’s a way to help.  Cool coats are lightweight vests for dogs which are activated by water. The moisture evaporates slowly throughout the day, drawing the heat out of your dog’s body to keep them cooler and more comfortable than before.

Cooling vests such as the ones Agility World sell just need to be soaked in water for a few minutes. When the vest is completely wet, simply squeeze out all the excess water and put it on your dog. Don’t worry, it won’t make feel him feel wet. Cooling coats are lightweight and very soft to the touch, so your dog will feel cool and comfortable for hours.

When might you find a Cool Coat useful?

Hanging around at outdoor events

At Agility World, we find Cool Coats really useful when we travel to agility shows. As you can imagine, there may be spells when one or more of the dogs are waiting their turn to compete, so they might be in their travel crate while we work another dog. The dogs can get pretty excited at shows and this can get them all hot and bothered. Cooling coats really help to keep them happier.

Country shows and summer fayres are great examples of other outdoor events where everyone likes to take their dog – it’s lovely to see so many animals at these events but a warm summer day can make it less enjoyable for your four-legged friend as you stroll around. Why not use a cooling vest for these situations?

Trips to the beach

Dog on the beachTrips to the beach can be trying for dogs, too – there’s very little shade, and even though you’ll probably take fresh water for him to drink, he might still get hot and uncomfortable on a warm day. A cooling vest will help make your dog’s day trip much more enjoyable.

Car trips

Taking a trip in the car with your dog? If you don't have air conditioning, getting stuck in a traffic jam is just so worrying. Without even a breeze coming through the window, your dog could soon be feeling the effect. Slip on a cooling vest until the car gets going again - this will help prevent your from dog over-heating.

Take them anywhere, use them again and again

We love that Cool Coats can be taken anywhere. They fold up small, so it’s no trouble to pack one to take out with us, even if the day doesn’t look too warm to begin with. You never can tell with the British weather, can you? If you moisten the vest before you go and slip it into a plastic bag it’ll stay wet for hours.  If it does dry out, just damp it down again with some water.

The coat stiffens a little as it dries, a little like a car chamois, but don’t worry, as soon as you put it back into water it will regain its soft-touch feel.

Inevitably the Cool Coat may get a little grubby over time. Wiping it down with a damp cloth is fine, and if that’s not enough, you can even machine wash it (follow the washing instructions).

Have you tried a cooling vest on your dog? We wouldn't go anywhere without one! See our shop for the small, medium and large sizes we have in stock.
