Back on Track Pain Relief Products for Dogs
Back on Track are well known for their pain relief products for dogs, from Mesh Rugs and Dog Coats to joint support items such as the Hock Brace and Leg Wrap. We explain what makes them unique, how they work and how they can prevent injury or bring relief from existing conditions.
State-of-the-art fabric
The products are made from unique textiles with heat-reflective properties – ceramic particles are fused into the polyester fibres – which radiate heat back towards the body, increasing blood circulation and helping to improve muscle tension.
Back on Track associates these benefits with injury prevention (important for competition dogs in training), as well as helping dogs with existing conditions such as arthritis, ligament or tendon injuries, or dogs recovering from an operation.
Regular Dog Rug
Their standard Dog Rug is rain resistant, breathable and lined with Back on Track’s special heat-reflecting ceramic fabric. Your dog’s own body heat aids the soothing, therapeutic effect of the rug. This blanket is heavier than the mesh rug, ideal for cooler or wetter weather.
Mesh Blanket
Similarly, Back on Track’s Mesh Dog Blanket has the same state-of-the-art ceramic-infused lining for gentle and natural warmth therapy. This is a lightweight version of the regular dog blanket, ideal for wearing during the summer, between competition events to keep muscles warm, or layered under another blanket. It can also be used after bathing your dog, or if he’s got damp in the rain.
Back on Track recommends introducing their dog blankets gradually – let your dog wear them for a maximum of four hours a day for two to three days. After that, as long as your dog seems comfortable, the blanket can be worn for longer periods i.e. overnight.
Leg Wrap and Hock Brace
Made from a comfortable neoprene outer shell, the inside of Back on Track’s Leg Wrap and Hock Wrap are infused with the same ceramic powder as their other pain relief products. The soothing warmth radiated back from your dog’s own body may help injuries heal more quickly by reducing inflammation, and provide relief for dogs with joint problems like arthritis.
Complementing conventional veterinary care
Back on Track’s products aren’t designed to replace conventional medical treatment by your vet or canine therapist, however many owners of the products testify that their dogs appeared to derive great relief after wearing them regularly, showing far fewer symptoms of joint or muscle pain and stiffness. If you’re not sure whether you should be using any of Back on Track’s products on your dog, check with your vet for advice.
Advice from Back on Track
- Measuring for dog blankets – Get your dog standing as square as possible and measure from a point on the neck where the middle of the dog’s collar would sit, to the base of his tail. If your dog appears to be between sizes, Back on Track advises to opt for the smaller size.
- Measuring for leg wraps – Measure the circumference of your dog’s leg above the paw, then refer to the size chart on our product page to select the most appropriate size.
- Measuring for hock braces – Three measurements are taken into account:
- The length of the wrap along the non-velcro side when it is closed
- The circumference of the top of the wrap
- The circumference at the bottom of the wrap.
Measure the circumference of your dog’s leg above and below the hock, then refer to the size chart on our product page to determine the best size.
- When not to use Back on Track products – Back on Track advises not to use their products for five days after an injection, and also recommends not using them in conjunction with other products which generate heat, such as liniments.
